Day 1: Arrival at Paro, drive to Thimphu
Guests to be received at Paro airport by representatives. Commence the tour by an introduction to Bhutanese fortresses at Paro Dzong and Ta Dzong, once a watchtower but now serving as the National Museum. Drive to Thimphu (1.5 hrs) for lunch and visit Kuenselphodrang (hosting one of the world’s largest Buddha statues), Takin Preserve, Memorial Chorten, Painting school, & Folk Heritage Museum.
Day 2: Thimphu – Punakha
After breakfast, drive to Punakha, approximately 2.5 hours from Thimphu. On the way, stop at Dochula pass (3,100m) for view of mountain range and visit the 108 chortens (stupas). In Punakha, visit the age old Punakha Dzong and Chimmi Lhakhang, temple of fertility built by Lam Drukpa Kuenley, the divine madman. A visit to Chimi Lhakhang is believed to bless infertile women and help them conceive. Sightseeing around the valley and visit Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Lhakhang. Night halt in Punakha.
Day 3: Punakha – Wangdue Phodrang - Thimphu
Breakfast at Punakha, followed by a brief visit to Wangdue Phodrang. Drive back to Thimphu. On the way, lunch stop at Dochula cafeteria, amongst the exquisite view of the mountain ranges. Arrive in the afternoon at Thimphu and visit Tashichhodzong (office of the King of Bhutan & seat of head abbot). Leisure-walk around the city before dinner.
Day 4: Drive to Paro for departure
Early morning after breakfast, drive to Paro airport for boarding onward flight to destination.
